Shopping

There are many traditional shops to be found within the county, offering a wide range of locally made goods and produce that will serve as a reminder of your visit to the Lake District.

Sample locally produced meat at Cranstons Food Hall in Penrith, or gingerbread in Grasmere, or the renowned salt-marsh lamb available at Holker Hall.

Or take home a more permanent reminder from one of the many galleries  - Thornthwaite Gallery, Thornthwaite, Keswick, Percy House Gallery, Cockermouth,  Upfront Gallery, Hutton in the Forest, Penrith.

Or if you find yourself ill-prepared for your day on the fells, then you are served by a wide variety of outdoor shops across the region. Try George Fisher in Keswick, which has a useful boot hire facility, or Gaynor Sports at Ambleside.
